It all Began with a nudge

I have a story I’d like to share with you.
I’m only part way into it, so I don’t know how it’s going to turn out.
I do know It’s going to change my life.
In fact, it already has.

It began six years ago with a nudge, an “invitation” from my higher source.
These invitations consistently call me out of my comfort zone, challenge my beliefs about my abilities, and are always for the better good.

So when this one came, I felt a sense of anticipation.
I grabbed my markers and sketchbook and opened to a blank page.
I watched my hand moving over the paper, leaving a trail of pictures and words.
I was mesmerized as my “invitation” took form in front of me.
It was “to guide people through a storytelling process that would set themself free.”
It even specified my audience.

I shared my sketch with the Cancer Clinic with hopes of volunteering.
It didn’t fit within their volunteer program so they declined.
I took their response as a “not yet “sign to the invitation, and carried on with my life.

My nudge returned two more times over the next few years.
Each sketch the work stayed the same, but the audience changed.
People in palliative care, a men’s group.

I tried different things to get it going, but couldn’t seem to get any traction.
I figured it wasn’t the right time yet.

Then covid came and turned the world upside down.
Amidst the chaos and upheaval I felt the need to ground myself.
It was time to retreat.

My retreat is an annual reflection process where I map out my past year, present situation and evolutionary whispers from my future.
As I began working through my future map, I started sketching an image.
This was different than the others.

I drew myself in the very center of the page.
I was a tree with branches for arms and roots for legs reaching outwards.
My trunk was curvy and flowy.
It felt beautiful to draw.
Words about my desires and purpose appeared around my tree.

When I was done, I observed it with curiosity.

When I read “helping people tell the stories they need to tell to set themselves free”, I could
feel a warmth flow through me.
I understood this invitation was designed just for me.
I’ve been training for it my whole life.

It was always ready, now I am.

Do you have a story you need to tell?
